Position Summary:The DRAW Youth Camp Manager will work with both the Recreation Camp and the Adventure Camp. They will be responsible for the day to day operations of Recreational Camp, a youth summer day camp, based at the UAF Student Recreation Center (SRC). This position will be responsible for developing the overall curriculum and programming for the Recreational Camp. They will also serve as an advisor on training and implementation of soft skills in age appropriate programming and behavior management for the Adventure Camp, a camp offered through the Outdoor Adventures department of the Department of Recreation, Adventure and Wellness at UAF.

Duties:

100Administrative Evaluate and update camp programming Create a schedule of enriching and fun activities for youth campers Create daily schedules for groups Maintain accurate attendance reports and camper documentation Assist with processing registrations Support staff with curriculum planning to ensure high quality programming Communicate with families, parents, and guardians about the program as well as student needs and concerns Work directly with Outdoor Adventures regarding Adventure Camp adherence to ACA certification Provide advice on developmentally appropriate program progression, camper concerns and safety protocols

Management/Supervision Foster camp spirit and community among campers and staff Collaborate with the assistant director of wellness to hire staff Plan and run summer staff orientation with support from the assistant director of wellness Supervise the Camp staff including observing, evaluating, and goal setting Assist with coordinating subs Work directly with children when support is needed Run staff meetings with support of the assistant director of wellness Assist outdoor adventures in training staff on the latest developmentally appropriate practices to increase learning and retention

Other Other duties may be assigned as needed Occasionally drive a van or SUV for Adventure camp. No technical field experience needed (climbing, rafting, hiking).Essential

Required Experience:

  • Experience working with children age 5-13 yrs in a camp and/or educational setting

  • Experience planning curriculum

  • Ability to meet the state of Alaska’s standards in regard to camp licensing (this includes 6 credit hours of early childhood education)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, administration or a related field

  • Valid driver’s license and comfortable driving a 12 passenger van

Typical Education or Training:

Bachelor’s Degree in physical education or a related field.
