Position Summary:The Mission of Design and Construction is to define, plan, and develop the infrastructure, land, and facilities to meet the needs of the university and the community, and to provide engineering support for the maintenance, operations, design, and construction divisions of Facilities Services. The functional units within Design and Construction are Project Management, Facilities Engineering and AutoCad Support.
10Coordinate and work with State, Federal and Local Transportation Agencies and Planners on the Fairbanks Metropolitan Area Transportation System (FMATS) board. Plan and advocate for funding for top priority transportation projects on the UAF campus.Essential
10Coordinate project schedules and activities with design managers, users, maintenance personnel and consultants, to ensure uninterrupted progress of work and facilities occupancy by the university staff, faculty and students.Essential
10Supervise project team for effective management of planning, design and construction of projects. Supervision includes providing performance appraisals and implementing professional development programs for employees.Essential
15Develop and manage budgets for the design and construction of capital project with budgets up to $100 million. Effectively manage the project costs to optimize the utilization of available funds.Essential
55Manage the development of design documents for capital improvement projects. Actively ensure user needs and objectives are incorporated, university design standards, and standard engineering practices are utilized, and the project can be constructed within budget.
Manage the construction of capital improvement projects. Ensure quality, contract and regulatory compliance, timeliness of projects and cost efficiency. Act independently and quickly in analyzing, evaluating and resolving construction problems to prevent delays and associated claims. Successfully execute cost efficient contract modifications to keep projects on track.Essential
**UAF Facilities Services Division of Design and Construction seeks to hire a Project Manager to oversee capital construction, maintenance, facility modifications and exterior infrastructure projects.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Extensive knowledge of project programming, scheduling, educational/research facilities design, engineering or architectural principles, building and life safety codes, regulations and statutes, contract law, construction specifications and technology. Thorough understanding of project administration and budgeting. Extensive knowledge of A/E contracting procedures for a public entity.
Required experience:Requires experience managing capital improvements projects, including program development, project planning, design, bidding, construction and warranty period administration. Experience must include management of multiple concurrent projects ranging from several thousand to several million dollars. Interpersonal and computer skills are important.
Education and/or Training required: Bachelor of Science in any of the engineering disciplines or architecture may be required or a combination of advanced education and experience. Professional registration in the State of Alaska, or ability to obtain registration within 12 months of employment; or 10 years Contract Manager or Senior Contract Manager experience in a department with a similar function as UAF Facilities Services Design and Construction.

Salary Information: Grade 82/ Step 1 - $34.45, DOE. This is a Term Funded, full-time, benefited position. No moving allowance for this recruitment.

Term Position: This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.

During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason. Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
